Baursak Day at KAZGUU

The first-year students of the Higher School of General Education, along with the teachers of the Kazakhstan History Centre and Rukhani Zhangyru, have treated everyone to baursaks – a staple food of the Kazakh people and the centrepiece of any dastarkhan (the national festive table).

At the same time, the children were given brief historical review of the lives of the Kazakh people, accompanied by musical motifs of dombra.

The improvised celebration was also attended by representatives of the University of Leiden, who were visiting KAZGUU as part of the international partnership programme. They demonstrated sincere interest in the Kazakh national traditions.

KAZGUU is famous for using an innovative methodology in teaching the History of Kazakhstan through experiential classes for first-year students. Since 2015, the University has been active in implementing the student patriotic education project.
