KAZGUU students gain unique experience

The trip to Kazakhstan’s geographical oasis Ulytau, organised by KAZGUU’s Rukhani Zhangyru Centre for the first-year students, opened them to the valuable experience of studying the history of the Kazakh people.

The students learned about the traditional way of life of the nomadic people, and immersed in the atmosphere of Kazakh hospitality. Visiting the mausoleums of Dzhuchi Khan and Alash Khan, and Dombauyl’s Mazar made a strong impression on all the participants of Ulytau tour.

The students were amazed by the majesty and beauty of the Kazakh steppe, and the architectural monuments of the past. Mounds, necropolises, mausoleums of Begazy-Dandybay culture, rock paintings, petroglyphs, and other ancient monuments found and studied by researchers, show that Ulytau was the centre of Saryarka and the whole steppe from the ancient times.

As part of the tour, the students have visited the Museum of History of Mining and Melting located in the village of Zhedyz named after M. Toregeldin, and met with the representatives of the National Historical and Cultural Museum and National Park “Ulytau”, which occupies 147,246 hectares.

The final day was devoted to a hike to the mountains located in the southwest of the Central-Kazakhstan hillocky area, where the students climbed the peaks. This is the location of the station of Zhoshi-khan, the eldest son of Genghis Khan; here Khan Batiy started his conquest of the East; and here is the burial place of the Khan of the Golden Horde, and the great Horde Commander Emir Adygeh.

KAZGUU is implementing a new format for studying history of Kazakhstan

JSC KAZGUU University uses an effective method in teaching history and culture of Kazakhstan for first-year students through practical classes. Since last year the university has been implementing a project on the study of the cultural and historical heritage of Kazakhstan. As part of its implementation the first-year students have the unique opportunity to visit the monuments of architecture, history and culture of the country and get acquainted with the heritage of their ancestors, their customs and traditions in the field.

A rule of thumb states that, this method contributes to more efficient assimilation of the curriculum and the acquisition of skills by students of legal alma mater.

This year, the tours are conducted under the auspices and in the framework of the celebration of the anniversary – the 25th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan. The tour is aimed at involving the young generation of Kazakhstan in the cultural and historical heritage of the country. The first-year students and their tutors of more than 300 people currently continue to tour the Southern regions of the country. Participants of the tour from 29th April of this year have already visited the most remarkable historical and cultural attractions of the country.

Thus, the route passes through the towns of republican and regional importance – Almaty, Shymkent, Taraz, Turkestan (Almaty, Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions).

In particular, as part of a tour in Almaty region the participants visited the Shokan’s Wellspring, Singing Dunes, the royal burial mounds Besshatyr, Sharyn Canyon, the mound Issyk, Turgen Falls and the petroglyphs of Tamgaly. The second group of tourists during the trip until May 10, will be able to familiarize themselves with tourist sites of Almaty, visit Medeo, Koktobe, International South Sunkar ski-jumps and at the same time hold a meeting with students of Demirel University. The children will also visit the memorial of Fame, and in the South-Kazakhstan region – mausoleums Tekturmas, Karakhan, Aisha Bibi and Babaji Khatun. In Shymkent guys plan to see the monument devoted to the 550th anniversary of Kazakh Khanate, the mausoleum Kozha Akhmet Yassaui and other cultural and historical sites.

As Izathan Medesheva states, she is the director of KAZGUU University Museum, this project is long-term in nature and is primarily aimed at promoting the national culture and history among young people, education of patriotism among the younger generation to the eternal values of the Kazakh people, its traditions, customs and architectural monuments.

In addition, in order to consolidate obtained information during the fascinating trip students participate in short plays and theatrical performances, where they reproduce the chronology of events and the most important stages in the development of Kazakh independence as historical figures and national heroes.

Tour to the houses of worship of Astana

As part of the “Religion” discipline program, Professor Umirzakova L., Ph.D. and Associate Professor Imankul A., Ph.D., organized a tour for students of the groups USP-102 and FSSP-101 in three places of worship of Astana city on April 19, 2016.

The first temple, which was attended by students, was the main Catholic cathedral of the city, built in 1999, with typical architecture of the Catholic places of worship.

The second place was a Jewish synagogue “Beit Rachel Chabad Lubavitch”, built in 2004. The synagogue was built thanks to the president of the Eurasian Jewish Congress and the Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan Alexander Mashkevich, as a tribute to the memory of his mother. In the main hall on a pedestal mounted shard there is a stone taken from the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. It is worth noting that conversation with rabbi Shmuel Karnaukhov, who told very interesting facts about the history of Judaism, aroused particular interest among students.

The third building, which was visited by our students and faculty, was Constantine and Elenensky Cathedral, an Orthodox Church, which is the oldest of the currently operating houses of worship on the territory of Astana, built in 1856.

All members of these churches during the meeting talked about the basics of their faith, about the history of the temple, answered to numerous questions of the students.

Of course, this tour did not cover all the temples of the city, as almost all the houses of worship of the world religions are found in our capital. However, the tour arouse great interest in students, they noted that the conversation with the representatives of these religions, Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Judaism, helped them understand some issues on which they have been looking for the answer.

Our congratulations!
