Educational program of the School of General Education of M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University is a one-year program that helps first-year students to obtain academic and language skills essential for future successful learning and professional career. Students of the given program gain not only critical thinking and collective work skills, but also learn how to communicate in the English language, carry out a research, create academic texts, such as: essays, annotations, course papers and diploma theses.
Lessons are held in the form of entry lectures, traditional lectures, guest-lectures, laboratories, tutorials, and field trips.
Learning outcomes
As competence based education is the key driver behind the international Bologna educational agreements signed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, below are defined competences mastered within General Education Program (based on the second cycle ‘Dublin Descriptors’):
- LO1 Students have knowledge and understanding in general education courses and use it in decision-making or problem-solving processes;
- LO2 Students are able to integrate gained knowledge and personal experience in order to formulate judgment about social, political, economic and cultural issues demonstrating critical thinking and self-reflection capacity;
- LO3 Students behave in compliance with law and ethical values of society;
- LO4 Students effectively communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialists and non-specialists audience either orally or in writing;
- LO5 Students deploying various learning tools and basic research methods are able to continue to study either autonomously or in collaboration due to such established qualities as tolerance, mutual respect and communication skills.
- LO6 Students promote and follow healthy life style.
