KAZGUU Professors spoke at the research-to-practice conference “The Great Famine – lessons of history and tribute to the memory of victims”

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on April 5, 1997, on the 31st of May Kazakhstan commemorates the Day of Victims of Political Repressions and Famine. On May 30, 2016 in the framework of the Day of victims of political repressions and famine the professors of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and General Education Mukataeva L., Akylbaeva I., Sultangazy G. presented papers on the topics: “Ahmet Baitursynov: Life devoted to the nation”, “Totalitarianism and mass repression in Kazakhstan in 1920-1940: the historical memory”, “The tragic fate of the Kazakh intelligentsia” in the research and practice conference “The Great Famine – lessons of history and tribute to the memory of victims” organized by the Domestic Policy Department of Astana city.

Our teachers were the most active participants of the conference; they prepared speeches based on the current data on the topic, using the presentations, told about the great work being done in KAZGUU on patriotic education of students during classes on the history of Kazakhstan. The conference was attended by students, the scientific community of the city and representatives of the education system. Also, the problems of understanding the lessons of history of political repression and famine in the 20s-30s of XX century, the policy of deportation and the unity of the ethnic groups living in the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed.
