Department of the History of Kazakhstan and General Studies holds its history since 2001 (starting from KAZGUU establishment in Astana).

Department of the History of Kazakhstan and General Studies has its mission within the general KAZGUU mission context – serving people by providing qualitative and affordable education. Faculty staff of the department is guided by the principles of universal human values, morals, contributes to cultivation and development of Kazakhstani patriotism, respect for democratic freedoms, all-round development of students, as well as formation of moral, ethical standards of a young person.

Department of the History of Kazakhstan and General Studies enrolls students within all undergraduate majors on general subjects: “History of Kazakhstan”, “Philosophy”, “Politics”, “Computer Science“, “Environment and Sustainable Development”, “Basics of Life Safety”, “Cultural Studies”, “Modern Issues of International Relations”, “Foreign Policy of Kazakhstan”, etc.

The department is managed by the Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Kusainova Zhaniya Daulbayevna.
The learning process provides highly qualified faculty staff. The department has three doctors of sciences and professors, 15 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 2 PhD, 11 MSc, including: Mukatayeva L.K., c.h.sc., associate professor, MAI academician, Imankul N.N., PhD, professor, Mukhlissov N.K., d.h.sc., associate professor, Okapov N.K., c.m.sc., professor, Dzhalmakhanbetova R.I., d.ch.sc., associate professor, Akylbayeva I.M., c.h.sc., associate professor, Malgarayeva Z.B., c.ph.sc., associate professor, Sultangazy G.Zh., c.h.sc., associate professor, Umirzakova L.A., c.ph.sc., associate professor, Medesheva I.B., c.h.sc., and other.

Teachers of the department are members of curriculas and textbooks authors’ groups; they participate in international and national projects, conferences, forums, etc.

The department carries out scientific cooperation with educational institutions in Germany, France, the Russian Federation, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
The faculty staff of the department is working to improve teaching methodology, implement innovational technologies, new educational technologies, develop online tutorials, case studies, presentations and use it in the classroom; they conduct research work with students (annual republican student conference and publication of students’ scientific articles collection, subject contests, scientific management of student projects and scientific works).

Senior teacher Abilbekov G.K. created “Sezim” poetry club, which combines the creative personality of students.

Activities of the department and its teachers are highly assessed in the university by students and faculty staff.

According to the results of 2002-2003, 2005-2006, 2008-2009 academic years, the Department of the History of Kazakhstan and General Studies has been recognized as “The Best KAZGUU Department of the Year”.

Associate Professor of the Department Kussainova Zh.D. won the contest “The best university teacher” of the RK MES 2008 and became a winner of the state grant.

Teachers of the Department became winners in the annual KAZGUU competitions within the following nominations: “Professor of the Year” (PhD, professor Imankul N.N.), “Best Lecturer” (PhD, professor Imankul N.N., c.ph.sc., associate professor Malgarayeva Z.B., c.ph.sc., professor Kussainova Zh.D.), “The Best Teacher of KAZGUU” (c.ph.sc., associate professor Sultangazy G.Zh., senior teacher Aliyeva A.Ya.).
